SHOVELS AND ROPE
The long and tiresome road of working class musicians is often overlooked and unseen by the average ticket buying concert goer. The long consecutive late night drives, the sense of accomplishment of making just enough money for gas to get to the next show, and possibly a few beers are never thought of on a friday night when you’re half inebriated and dancing to some unknown melody.
Shovels and Rope, is a two piece American as hell, foot stomping, heartfelt band consisting of Michael trent and Cary Ann Hearst, from Charleston, SC. They’ve been on the road since 2010 when they met in Athens, GA and moved to Charleston, SC to start playing gigs. They are the definition of a hardworking blue collar band and it helps that they are freaking phenomenal. The two have been filming their progress as they tour the world and are trying to release a documentary on what it means to quit your job, hit the road, and make it work. Here is a sneak preview from the documentary and you can check out the trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rbWbaXv1oo . If you like what you hear, they are going to be here in Richmond June 3rd, opening for Lucero at Browns Island and you can buy tickets through their website at www.ShovelsandRope.com Enjoy!
Everybody has that old t-shirt or pair of pants that you wear as much as possible and can’t stand the thought of loosing. Maybe you have that sentimental association with something else, too. Your Pendelton backpack you found in an underground market in San Francisco for a dollar, that you somehow have managed to keep over the years, who know? Whatever these things may be, they are subtly important to daily existence. Hence, Essentials. Hypebeast.com has be chronicling designers, jewelry makers, bloggers, and every other kind of industry’s persona through a series of what makes up their everyday grab bag. The photos speak of who these people are without even seeing their face. Here are some of my favorites, however you can see the full catalog here :http://hypebeast.com/search?s=Essentials
